Message from the Chairman Society of Iodine Sience(SIS)
Naohumi TANAKA
Chairman of SIS
(President of Godo Sigen Sangyo Co.,Ltd.)Nohumi TANAKA

It is my honor to be elected to the chairperson of SIS as a successor of the former one Ogura in the ordinary meeting of this year. Since the establishment in 1998,

the first chairperson Yokoyama and the second one Ogura, who had career as professors of university, had sincerely worked for the society to achieve great success. As for me with career in industrial world, SIS should be desirable to be run considering the right way together with all members and supporting people of SIS on the basis made up by two predecessors.

On courtesy visits to President Y. Saito of Chiba University and Chiba Governor K. Morita, SIS was fully appreciated and strongly encouraged. These are the results of the previous secure management and a lot of activities of the society. And also these are benefit from the great attention to recent iodine science in many field of advanced materials, medicine, ecology, energy, and so on.

Now on the 12th SIS Symposium, a lot of high-level lectures and presentations, which are 3 invited lectures, 1 prize lecture, 5 oral presentations, and 47 presentations in poster session, will be programmed. Two overseas lecturers in the field of ecology and physical chemistry, and one Japanese lecturer in the field of organic chemistry, whose researches are very attractive worldwide, are invited. While much more oral presentations were applied than ever, not all of them are regretfully able to be accepted. In the poster session, the largest number of 47 presentations will be performed.

The SIS Prize of this year is given to Prof. Y. Muramatsu of Gakushuin University for the research in the academic field. He has played a key role on the society since the establishment of SIS. His researches relating the trends of iodine in the global environment and in the ecosystem are highly evaluated worldwide. In addition, the researches with the aids from industries since 2003 lead to presentations on the symposium.
Active discussion and information exchanges on iodine science through the society will be expected between different fields beyond the major and the generation. I wish your meaningful time through your positive participation and cooperation on the SIS Symposium.
